Having Our Say
Pupil Council in St Margaret's Academy
Having a Pupil Council is one of many ways we make sure pupils have a say in the way St Margaret's Academy is run. The school Pupil Council gives pupils a voice in school matters, provides a forum for discussion and gives pupils a chance to make their school environment a better place.
Year Councils exist for each year group from S1 – S4 and Senior School. They consist of eight representatives from across the whole year group. There are also two year representatives that are elected to sit on the whole Pupil Council. Meetings are held every three weeks during the school day.
The purpose of the Pupil Council is similar to that of the Year Council but it also allows pupils from across all year groups to come together to share ideas.
The Pupil Council will consist of two members from each Year Council. After the elections in November when new Year Councils for S1, 3 and S5 are selected two pupils from each Year Council will be chosen for the Pupil Council. The Head Boy and Head Girl and the deputy Head Boy and Girl will also be part of the Pupil Council.
The agenda for all meetings will be prepared by Miss MacLennan and will mainly focus on feedback from the Year Councils. Any member of staff is welcome to attend Pupil Council meetings should they wish to add something to the agenda.
Meetings will be taken by the following link teachers for the coming year.
